Calebogie Classic

So it was now my first official race of the season at Calebogie, which is about an hour drive from Ottawa. The race was 77km around a 5.5km circuit, which made up for a 14 lap race. The race was a mix of the junior men and the senior 3 men so there was a decent field that showed up, about 35-40 riders. the race started off slow, with a few little attacks here and the but none of them that got more than 15seconds up the road. All eyes were on the one Cat 1 racer in the field who couldn't race senior 1-2 because of his american licence and therefore was in our race. Since I had no team mates in this race, I talked with this cat 1 rider in effort to organize a break. we attempted once but just the two of us couldn't stay away from the field with the strong winds. So I rested up for a few more laps in the pack trying to stay out of the wind until and opportunity opened up. A group 5 riders attacked and I decided to go with them. and this proved to be the break of the race as we quickly picked up 2:00 minutes on the field with about 5 laps to go. However people started to die in the break and with one lap to go there was me and two other riders. in the last lap the tension built as the three of us were trying to save of legs for the sprint. with about 700m to go in the race one of the other riders in the break launched and excellent surprise attack from behind which completely caught me off guard. He initially got a 20m gap on me but I rode hard giving it all I got and caught and passed him to win by about 15m at the line. It was a good tough race and I was happy to come off with the first win of the season for me.

First race and interview

Hey guys sorry for not posting anything the past few days but it's been busy with family and easter holidays. But about the good Friday timetrial! I was happy with my performance, only 41seconds off my personal best on that course, I came in with a time of 20:19 for the 15km. I was satisfied with that time because it was after all the first one of the season so I couldn't expect it to be perfect. I did start off to hard and died a bit at the end but you learn from your mistakes. It was good practice.

Right after the race i had to rush because I had an interview with the local television station for my performances over the past season. the interview went well, I had a fun time riding around getting filmed by a guy hanging out of a car window! I'll be sure to let you know when it will be aired.

Now I'm backing into a training phase for a bit with just some training races for a bit on the weekends. The nest big event is the Junior worlds trials, where I will attempt to qualify to be part of the Canadian junior track team to attend the world championships this year.

About to start

So first time trial of the year tomorrow! It`s just the good Friday time trail at the local club but it`ll be good to see where I`m at in terms of fitness compared to last year. It`s pretty exciting to get back racing on the road again after a long weekend of training inside! I`ve been doing a lot of track over the winter so I think I`m in better shape right now than I was last year and hopefully it will show on the road tomorrow. Though the first 15km time trial of the season is never to much fun, it often ends in you going out too hard then blowing up near the end, happens to the best of us! But it will be nice to get some practice in by doing some of these early so that by the important races of the season it will become second nature. Wish me luck!

And it begins....

Hey Guys this here is just a test post to make sure that everything is working. I'm pretty new to this kind of stuff so it may take me a while to get used to! Hopefully I'll get the page set up fully soon to make it easier to follow me!
